Description
They said that Chester's family gave him up so they could get a younger horse. I can't imagine that they thought he'd end up in a kill pen. (Soapbox moment: With a horse this old, the kind thing is to euthanize rather than send to auction. There. I said it.) Vet estimate puts him between 25 and 30 years old. He's a tired old boy. Like Windy, he was starving when he came. The problem is that he doesn't have the teeth necessary to chew hay, so he wasn't eating. On top of that, he had a skin condition called rain rot. These days he's gaining weight on a diet of Senior horse chow and soaked alfalfa cubes. We don't know how long Chester has, but he's going to stay here where we know he'll be well taken care of. The photos show Chester in March and when he arrived. He looks even better now.
