- Tilly is a kind, sweet mare. When we picked her up at a kill pen, we were told that she came from a riding stable. Unfortunately, x-rays show that she has a soundness problem in her front left fetlock. The good news is that she has responded well to injections and pain medication. Like most of the horses that end up in kill pens, she would have gone to auction and not sold to a private buyer, in her case, probably because of her lameness. Here's the thing: We knew Tilly wasn't sound when we rescued her, but we didn't think that was a reason for her to have to endure a tortuous journey to Mexico for an unregulated slaughter. At Windy's Landing, we take the horses that others don't want. Tilly gets along well with other horses and is an easy keeper. She would do best as a pasture companion.
