Description
In August of 2025, when we went to a kill pen to rescue another horse, we had no idea we'd also come home with Windy. Upon seeing him, though, we realized we didn't have a choice. Windy was starving. He suffers from heaves, a disease best described as a combination of COPD, asthma, and allergies. The dust from the round-bale hay and indoor living would have challenged his breathing to a point of him not even trying to eat. His chances of survival here were uncertain, but we knew he definitely wouldn't survive the harrowing trip to a Mexican slaughterhouse. Windy has since gained a couple hundred pounds and his breathing is under control thanks to a diet of soaked hay cubes, Benadryl, Omega 3 oils, and sometimes steroids. We were told that in his younger years, Windy had been a show horse and 4-H horse in Iowa (where he was born). Surely there are people who remember him and wonder what ever happened to him. The photos show Windy today and shortly after his arrival.
